Frugal Syd

We give our kids the opportunity to earn money. Its a good way for them to realize that everything comes with a price tag attached, and to hopefully develop some pride and ownership in their own stuff. Still working on all of that. But one of my favorite things about them having their own money is that when we go to the store and they beg for a certain purchase, all I have to say is, "did you bring your money?" or "do you have enough money?"

So they other day, Syd and I were doing some shopping. Sydney really wanted something that was $1. I told her it would cost her one of her dollars if she really wanted it. She agreed to give it to me once we got home. After we arrived, I didn't even have to remind her. I could hear her rummaging through her piggy bank and then she ran back and handed me this...

I asked her what it was. She said, "I still want to use some of the dollar so you can have that part."

I had to explain to her that the dollar wasn't worth anything if it wasn't in one piece and so we taped it  back together. I have to hand it to her, it was pretty clever.
