Sandy

Sandy made herself known on the East coast. Vineland got lucky, especially since we haven't completely cleared up the damage from the storm in June. She was headed right for us but last minute turned northwest. Others obviously were not so lucky.
I hate seeing and hearing about all the devastation and suffering and feeling so helpless. Mormon helping hands did a lot to clean up this past summer and I'm sure we'll be put to work soon but right now people are hungry, thirsty, and cold. They feel almost in reach yet so out of reach at the same time.
We are trying to put together a food/coat drive this weekend with the youth, I just wish I could do so much more.

The morning after our previous storm, I set out for a long run. The further I went, the more guilty I felt for doing something so selfish. I witnessed people coming out of their homes to survey the damage, many with trees through their homes and cars. Power out in the whole city.
I felt very guilty but really what could I do?

This brings me to my next point....The ING NYC marathon takes place the first Sunday in November every year. Mayor Bloomberg announced that the race will take place. People in NYC are suffering. They are using generators to run the many tents set up along the route. There is so much food and water brought in to run such an event. The race officials assured us that none of that was taken from the New York area. But wait a second...if all that food and water can be brought in for the race, why are some people still without?  I just don't know how I feel about this, very torn.

If I were signed up, I don't think I would feel right running it. Maybe ING should donate all proceeds to help Sandy victims, then it would be a charity run. Hmmm....Any thoughts?

I felt the same way about the marathon. I'm glad they cancelled it. Glad you guys are okay too!
