Kitchen remodel

It all started with our sun room flooding during a rain storm. We were at Home Depot to purchase something for that repair when we saw a pocket door. We had talked at length about what we wanted to do with our kitchen, it was just a matter of time and money. Doug asked if we should just do the wall/pocket door and I thought, why not!
Well, as it happens one things leads to the next and we ended up taking out the tile, building a breakfast nook, taking cabinets out, modifying the size of our island and building an arch.
And as I'm writing this, we still haven't even gotten to that repair in the sun room!

It was a challenging three weeks living in a construction zone, without a normal functioning kitchen but it all turned out so nicely. We pretty much worked every second possible so we cranked it all out pretty quickly. Its amazing how much more we enjoy our home/kitchen after making some changes according to our preferences. And especially with out the black and white tile. It was such a mess all the time. The minute you mopped, every-other night at the least, it was spotted again.

All these pictures are completely out of order but I just don't have the time to put them in order.
The finished archway...I love how it ties the rooms together and just adds some class.

I asked Doug to include a cookbook nook in our breakfast nook. No problem!
We even used re-used wood from cabinets and walls we took down to build it.
I love it!

The island that came with the house was way too big for the kitchen so instead of selling it and purchasing a new one, Doug thought he could modify it...again- No problem!

The finished breakfast nook. The whole right side is available for storage.

Starting the archway.

First breakfast on the nook!

I did all the staining and painting, since its pretty much the only thing I can do.

The wall completed and blue! We are so pleased that we moved the entrance over, so much more usable room and now people don't walk in our front door to our kitchen!

Doug even tiled the kick boards.

We ended up hiring some help to lay the tile and then Doug and I finished with the grouting.
It was a good choice to hire that out.

Backer-board down! Ready to tile!

The huge, beat-up island before modification.

The only problem with starting this is that we had to finish it. Such hard work! They cemented the backer board down so it was a beast to get out- we hired workers for that part to, since Doug's hand begun getting numb.

Wall done. Starting on the tiles.

Wall Out!

Getting this party started. Demo is such fun!
