Top This?

I couldn't be more excited and SHOCKED... I got my bike back (was stolen shortly before Thanksgiving)! In such a big city, I never even dreamed it was possible (well actually I did dream about it THE NIGHT BEFORE I SAW IT). So the condensed story... Doug and I were coming home from the city and decided to get off the last stop and walk instead of the stop before where we can take the bus home.  I let out a high-pitched scream- from excitement- "Oh, my gosh, that's my bike. That's my bike!"  Doug obviously didn't believe me at first but there's no mistaking a 14 1/2 Diamondback frame with massive tires, clipless pedals, disc brakes, and a small sticker that says 'The Giant'.

The bike was chained up in front of a cafe so Doug went in to investigate. He asked about the bike and who rides it, they started speaking in Spanish to one another. Doug shut them up and got who he wanted by interrupting the conversation and speaking to them in Spanish.  They guy said he'd bought it off someone for $50. I said we'd give him $50 but he said, no $100.  So Doug told him we'd call the cops and he won't get anything but will be held responsible for the stolen bike b/c we have documentation to prove it's my bike and was stolen.

After a long time waiting for the cops, the guy realized I was serious about getting it back and folded. We only had $43, which he originally wouldn't take but I think he buckled once he knew I was serious about involving the cops. He said he was loosing $7 but Doug assured him that he had just rented a really nice bike for a couple months for $7, which is a great deal.  Anyway, I bought back my bike and I'm so so happy! I still can't believe that I found it, I really wish I had taken a picture of my bike locked up and with the delivery boy.

Sorry about the quick and sloppy story, just can't add all the fun details.

I love my bike!

Love the story! I love that Doug broke out his Spanish. It's amazing that even though Doug didn't go on Spanish speaking mission he was so determined to learn Spanish anyway! He speaks MUCH better than me and I lived in a foreign country! Gotta love it.

That is incredible! Seriously... I would consider it one of those "tender mercies" that Elder Bednar talked about, especially with the dream the night before...

That was the best. I love the whole story - especially Doug pulling out the spanish. It is fun to be white and surprise people when we respond in Spanish to them - way to be persistent. Good times on the bike!!!
