Bad Combo

So being prego isn't very fun, but I'm beginning to think that New York City may be one of the worst places to have such sensitivity to smells. And thanks to the hot dense air the smells on the streets are extremely magnified. I will spare you some of my embarrassing stories about puking in the city while people look at me thinking "Lay off Grandpa's cough syrup lady." Basically I try to avoid city streets as much as possible.

The real issue is that I hate food right now but eating is essential and I feel this "stay-at-home wife/mom" need to feed my family, but who wants to use their oven when it doubles the temperature in your already hot apartment? Basically I am out of ideas for good summer meals. SO with this long explanation I'd love suggestions!

We love to eat wraps, sandwiches, cold or hot pasta dishes, fruit, or just good bread. I never could eat much salad during my pregnancies so that stunk for me. I lived on PB&J sandwiches. I never threw up but I always wished I could thinking that it would be like the flu and I'd feel better after. You can probably tell me otherwise!! I am sorry that New York stinks...I used to carry a bandana with a simple scented perfume with me when I would attend my anatomy labs at BYU. Maybe you could just sniff a bandana as you walk the streets - then they would really wonder what was up with you!! We miss you.

Salad, salad, salad. Just kidding, but that's seriously all I ever feel like eating in the summertime when it is so dang hot. Good luck!

Hey Amber, We eat lots of grilled stuff,(marinated chicken, fish, shishkabobs, hamburgers) are you able to grill? I like it because it does not heat up the house... if you need one you can get a little hibachi grill for about $15... We used that all the time when we were in an apartment, or a George Foreman inside... Then it doesn't heat up the kitchen too much. I also do lots of stove top stuff, like pancakes, waffles etc... I also use the rice cooker a lot to avoid the oven... :) GOOD LUCK!!! I remember those days WELLL!!!! Hang in there!

Hi,
I'm Anne Woods' sister, and I saw your link on her site. I have a recipe blog and recently put up lots of summer dishes so you don't have to heat up your house. You should check it out! karensrecipes.blogspot.com
Good luck with the smells of NY--there are STILL things I can't smell or eat after being pregnant.

Oh, man it's true. New York is probably the stinkiest place I've ever been, but that's maybe because I was there when I was pregnant too. I had Jake pick up some Chinese for himself and I'd eat some if I felt up to it. That's what's great about New York, is that there are take out/delievery options all over the place.
