Honoring the Sabbath day

The girls started taking ballet this year. They have loved it! And what a treat to be learning a dance that goes to the Frozen theme song, Let it Go! We paid for the costumes and were getting all set for their performance. When I went to mark it in our calendar, I realized it was on a Sunday. I was so upset and immediately thought we wouldn't be able to go. I didn't bring it up to the girls and kind of talked myself into it being ok. After speaking with Doug, we thought we should let the girls decide...hoping they would choose the right. We brought it up and suggested they pray about it. Their initial response was kind of a "obviously we aren't going" but we wanted them to feel a part of the decision. Leah came back and felt very strongly that they shouldn't participate. Paige agreed.
So I told their teacher. She was kind of understanding but asked if we could just sneak in for their performance and then leave. I explained that I would talk to my husband but that I thought I should take advantage of this life lesson and live one of the things we teach our kids to do.
We brought it up to the girls again, and they said, "well we prayed about it and felt like we shouldn't."  The answer seemed simple to them. What a great lesson. It should always be simple. You live what you teach. You choose to follow the Savior and do what is right. I know there will be many more difficult choices the girls have to make and us as a family but I hope this can be a lesson and framework for future decisions.
