Planning family activities is fun and important but sometimes I feel like every time we go out of our way to do something special, we come away feeling like our kids don't appreciate it and are a bit ungrateful (maybe even a bit spoiled too). The times when we spontaneously just hang out or do something on the fly seem to be when we truly enjoy one another.
It doesn't happen often enough, but that's probably what makes it feel so special.
I love meeting Doug for lunch during his work day. Inevitably, its at In-N-Out.
Across from our house is Swope Middle School. Which means wide open spaces, a dirt track, fields, etc. I love it. Sometimes my girls ask to go run laps (secretly, I hope they love to run as much as I do). Sometimes we just end up over there. The weather has been amazing this winter (although we need it to be colder, with more snow). One Friday evening in particular was just so much fun. Frisbee. Races. Monkey bars. Performances on the bleachers. Just good ol' fun.
And then every once in a while, Syd and I get to take advantage of Brigham's nap time.
We were playing with one of those Velcro ball games and Syd was a riot. She kept getting hit because she buries her face in her arms every time I threw the ball. I love it!
