I kind of started a tradition of getting Lunchables for the kids' lunches any time they go on a field trip. I really dislike Lunchables, they're not healthy nor filling. But, I do feel it is important to do fun- out of the ordinary- things every once in a while. Leah was going on a field trip and I was swamped with busy work with the home we would be purchasing. Buying a home is not cheap and so I was caught up in every penny spent. I don't know if it was the money or I just didn't have time to run to the store but either way, I told Leah we wouldn't be getting a lunchable for her field trip. She got very sad and moped around, which irritated me. So, I gave her a lecture about not getting everything we want and being responsible with money, etc.
I thought the argument was settled. The next morning was her field trip and she brought this sweet letter with $2 inside, down to me. It says:
Dear Mom,
I'm so sorry for acting like I get whatever I want. And I'm sorry that you have been having a hard time and that your ear is hurting. But you shouldn't pay for me for the lunchable, I will pay for you. Because you are buying a house and you are buying me so much and I actually should be buying it.
Love, Leah
Of course, we ran to the store and she used her money to purchase a lunchable. What a sweet, thoughtful girl!
