Other doctors have given Doug the advice to never treat your own family. This week, I think Dr. Doxey has learned how valuable this advice is. Turns out family members are your worst patients.
Here's the scoop: I've had some warts on my toe (I know, revolting!), we've treated them for quite some time and the only thing they did was spread. So I went in again this past Wednesday and Doug said, why don't we just cut these out since the current treatment isn't very effective.
I asked if it would be really painful and then agreed since I'm pretty inactive right now anyway.
So they numbed me up and Doug went to town on my toe. Everything went well for the next 24 hours or so. As the numbness wore off, I could feel a bit of pain. We went to the temple Thursday night. Wearing the temple slippers set off a whole lot of pain because my toes were smashed together, irritating the open wound. I said a little prayer so that I would be able to enjoy the session, and it was a great session.
Shortly after we got in the car, my foot lit up with pain and began throbbing!
To make this story shorter, I was up all night, groaning in pain. Doug felt awful!
The main problem? I'm pregnant and can't take anti-inflammatory or other medicines that would help the pain. I even took Tylenol and Unisom but I couldn't even sleep through the pain.
The next morning Doug said, "I don't ever want to treat patients after seeing how badly this hurts you!" He just kept apologizing. And I kept laughing, it seemed so silly and ridiculous, that it was funny. It was total evidence to me of the magic of anti-inflammatory's. I asked for another injection of lidocaine. Definitely a perk of being married to your doctor. We even brought a syringe home in case of emergency.
And last night, finally around 3 am, I woke him up begging for that "emergency" injection.
Poor Doug, he feels so bad. He just has to watch me deal with it, and basically without medicine. He said, "you'll never let me treat you again!" but I believe what he was really saying is, "I'm never going to treat you again!"
And in the end if the warts never come back, it will all be worth it! If they do...he's really in trouble!

That looks painful!! Ouch!
Your girls! They are so much older! I can't believe how much they've grown, and how beautiful they are.
Congratulations!! That is so exciting that you are pregnant. How wonderful.
We live too close not to see you all. One day we will come to see you! I have another friend who lives there now too!
