Our ward did one of the most fabulous activities last Sunday. We had all school-age children invite a teacher or coach, or just someone who has taught them and influenced them in some way, to a Teacher Appreciation Night at our ward building. We had a keynote speaker, a recently retired principal. Then they called the pupil and their teacher up to the stand. Each child said a little something about why they selected that teacher. It was so touching, so many teachers got emotional. It was also so refreshing to hear young kids publicly express appreciation. Almost every teacher made the comment that in all their years teaching, they had never been to something like that.
The program ended with closing remarks by our Bishop and the spanish branch president. They kind of touched on how teachers are share their Christlike qualities in teaching and caring for these young kids.
Tara and I were in charge of the reception to follow and frantically tried to make it as nice as possible, one more way to show the teachers our appreciation.
The whole evening was such a success, we had somewhere between 15 and 20 teachers sow up, with their families. I think it was a great turn out for the first year.
Doug and I both agreed that this is something we want to suggest to do in every ward we are members of. Such a great missionary opportunity.

Young Woman
I have served as the first counselor in Young Woman's for the past two years. It was been both fun and completely over-whelming. But I have really grown to love the youth in our ward.
The whole young woman's presidency was released two weeks ago, a shock to us. Very bittersweet. I will always remember the many lessons this wonderful group of youth taught me.

We did a teacher appreciation night like that in my ward growing up. It was always a great experience. Thanks for reminding me about it. Also, I'm a counselor in YW too and I love it, but also agree that its very overwhelming! Good luck on your move!
