Gettin a feel for Philly

One of the main reasons I decided to make my blog private now is because Doug will be MIA for the next two- TWO- months. He's doing a rotation in Baltimore, which means we get him back most weekends but golly, it's too long.
I don't feel comfortable letting anyone and everyone know that we will be without a man at our house...I'm kinda a pansy when it comes to being home alone.

Doug took half of Thursday, and Friday off in order to spend some time together before he left. Lets not talk about the fact that Thursday Doug actually got home around 5:30. Is that half day? Makes me crazy.
Friday was a very enjoyable day though. I started out the day by going to my last spin-muscle class before my two-month hiatus. I'm not happy that I have to miss out on this. We decided to experience more that Philly has to offer.

First we hit up Fairmont park where the girls played in the free Smith Playhouse.

Next we headed out for some genuine Philly Cheese steaks. We made our way over to Geno's/Pat's but didn't know which one to try so we got one from each. These two stands are across the street from one another, both very Italian-run. Kind of a fun environment. We liked Pat's better. But as far as I'm concerned, all cheese steak sandwiches are the same and nothing to get excited about.

Then we found ourselves downtown at Reading Terminal Market. We heard it was fun but had no idea what it was. I felt like I was in Guatemala city at the local markets. The girls loved seeing all the seafood and Amish stands. And we tried one of the best cookies in the world- Raspberry Chocolate. oooh gotta get back there!

Lastly, we went to see the annual flower show at Macy's. This years theme was Brazil. We saw some incredible flowers and didn't take one picture. Dang!

The only family picture from the whole day.

Saturday Doug woke up early to run 16 miles. I ran 12 and he brought the girls out to meet me around mile eight so they could ride their bikes along with me. Paige decided she couldn't go fast enough but was pleased as punch to ride in the front passenger seat. Leah's little legs were peddling so fast to keep up. She was so proud of herself, I really wish I had it on video. There really is nothing better than someone pushing you along while on a long run.

As far as General Conference, are there any other parents out there who feel like it's one of the most difficult weekends? I always look forward to being uplifted but it quickly becomes so frustrating to try to get the kids to be quiet. It's like Sunday morning all weekend long.
Sunday afternoon, Doug sent me to watch it at the church and we decided that's what we'll do until our kids are a bit older.

Hey... leslie again... So I just really relate to the part about not having a man in the house... SO NOT FUN. I have a new appreciation for women whose husbands travel and single Mom's. Dave has NEVER ever in our entire marriage come home at 5. . .I am used to the late nights wirjubg... but not having him home at all when he is traveling is totally different. I cannot sleep when he is gone.I am the queen of the pansies! I hope these two months go by quickly for you!! I wish you could take another road trip out here while he is gone!!!!!! You guys are so cute! I love all the pictures of you and your cute girls! You are beautiful Amber! Seriously, you look awesome!! :) Miss you guys!
