Leah and Sydney both had well visits today. When the doctor asked my 5-year-old if she liked school, she said yes. Then I had to explain to him that we decided to keep her back until next year. He asked if she was having problems. I filled him in on the fact that Leah was struggling with being away for an entire day.
He then proceeded to give me a little lecture say I need to put her in some kind of day care, or at least half day preschool. He said I need to break that connection so we don't have a repeat of the separation anxiety next year.
I felt so irresponsible and belittled. I hate that.
As I was leaving, the nurse asked if the girls are in preschool. I told her no. She replied with "Lucky you- and I'm not being sarcastic. You get to watch them grow."
I was so grateful for a comment with perspective. I am so sick of people telling me that my kids need to be away from me. Being a mom is so difficult. It's usually more difficult than it is fun but I have been here to witness every first step, first word, first laugh. I get to witness the miracle of a child discovering their surroundings. To watch them gain confidence. I get to discipline my children the way I feel they ought to be disciplined.
There is so much I would have missed out on.
What a blessing it is that I have this opportunity.

It is THE BEST blessing to be able to stay home with your kids.Even though its not easy to be with them 24/7, Leaving them with someone else is never better (whether the Dr. says so or not!LOL) I am glad that nice lady said that to you! She was probably wishing she could be with her kids. I am always grateful for the time I have been able to be home with my kids. Those times only come once! :) Your girls are beautiful Amber and you are doing such a great job with them! You are an awesome Mom!! I Love all the darling pictures of you guys! :)) We are so glad we got to spend some time with you all! We miss you!
I have only been a parent for 7 months, and I am already SO fed up with people telling me how i need to do things. I am especially annoyed with them telling me she needs time away from me. I became a parent to BE with my child, not to be away from them. We feel like are well check ups have been belittling, and a complete waste of money and time so far. Why am I paying someone to make me feel discouraged every time we visit? Kids will grow up, regardless of whether or not they go to school when they are three, or five, or eight. Why rush it?
