My Hobo Husband

Doug has sacrificed a lot in his pursuit for a career in order to provide for our family. Far too often, it goes without noticing and without the needed praise from his wife. Instead he comes home from a long day and patiently listens to me, entertains the kids, etc. etc. Well, this last weekend about topped all the sacrifices.

We drove to Utah from Colorado last Wednesday in order to spend Thanksgiving with family (and it was a fabulous weekend). He had to catch the red-eye to NYC Saturday night. On our way up to the airport, he texted the guy who he was supposed to be staying with to let him know when he'd arrive. The reply from this sweet guy said: "Sorry bro, it's not going to work out." Nice. Doug was less than stoked.

So he arrives to NYC early in the morning with no where to go. He decides to head to our neck of the woods, stashes his luggage under the porch of our old house and takes off on a long walk (he's too nice to wake anyone up). So he roams around for about 3 hours, including falling asleep on a park bench; had there been newspaper lying around, I bet he would've used it.

He finally went to our neighbors house and got ready for church there. Meanwhile, he'd arranged to stay with another friend from school. After church, he got a call to meet one the friend he's staying with at the school, so Doug left for the school, skipping out on a meal with the Brenchley's. After five hours of waiting at the school, Doug got a call saying that his friend wasn't going to make it back from Long Island that night. Again- Nice. Doug ended up sleeping in the lounge at school, he didn't even take his shoes off. That's two homeless-restless nights for Doug, and he had to report to clinic early Monday morning.

I'm happy to report, he now has a place to stay. The best part about all of it is that he's so easy-going, he just rolled with the (rather large) punches. He's really the best.

We miss you Doug. Seriously, thanks for all you do, have done, and will continue to do for our family. We love you.

For the record, all you new yorkers...we totally know he could have stayed with any of you but he didn't know his friend wasn't coming until late. It's kind of sketchy in that area late at night so he just stayed there. Thanks to everyone though!
