Karla, Thomas and me and my girls drove across the country to last week. We made it from NJ to Utah is 34.5 hours. The kids did great considering the long days in the car. Some highlights thus far:
Day 1- We actually got off at 7 am. 12 hours to Chicago the first day.
Day 2- 16 hours in the car, from Chicago to Fort Collins. Only stopped 3 times! Drove through Tornado watch (yes, I cried I was so scared) followed by a blizzard in WY and CO.
Day 3- Spending time at Marc and Cosi's house. They are always so accomadating and fun! 7 hours to Utah. It is always so much fun driving down the canyon into SLC and we got there just in time for a beautiful west coast sunset. Driving up to the house, we couldn't have asked for a better welcome. Everyone was outside screaming and honking their horns.
Almost the whole family is here (minus Doug, Dave, and Ryan and Amber's kids). We were quite the crowd at the airport welcoming Jay home from his mission. He is amazing and so much fun to watch with all the grandkids.
Now we're just enjoying time with family and cousins. Leah and Paige are loving time with Lilly and Jensen.
One thing is for sure...WE MISS OUR DADDY!
Oh, and yes, we did happen to run into Jimmer at BYU. Yes, it is a highlight.

Wow - you two are BRAVE. I am so glad you made it safe. How fun to be there when your little brother got home. I can't wait to see my little brother in July. Hope you have tons of fun in Utah. Did I mention you two are brave women?!?
That is SOOOOO awesome Amber! What an adventure!!! I would LOVE that!!! You are brave, like Heidi said... but hey... you HAD to be there for this!! That must be sooo great to see your little brother! I am so happy for you!!! Hope you have a GREAT TIME!! How long are you going to be there? We are going to be up there next weekend the 27th!!! If you're still there, we'd love to see you!!! :)
All I'm saying is ROAD WARRIORS. That is amazing. Julie has floated the idea of driving "back East" to Utah for this and that, and the control freak/worry wart/Grammie in me can't begin to let that happen yet. Doug must have been worried sick. Then again, this is Amber (you)we're talking about. Sounds totally fun. So fun to see you with your extended family.Cheerio.
Oh my gosh! There is nothing sweeter than the moment when a missionary gets home! I'm so glad you were there for it. That is just the greatest!
And so glad you ran into Jimmer.
