This is by far one of the coolest things I've seen in New York. This was on Good Friday around 6pm, we heard this singing outside and look what we saw going down the street. The priests were singing some Greek chant and then the crowd would join in. Most of the people were in black and were carrying candles. I thought it was pretty neat.
Here's the Priests carrying the cross.
Where we live in Astoria, we're surrounded by a lot of churches, bells have been ringing all weekend. Last night (Saturday) at midnight, they were going crazy and we saw two separate firework shows. We've missed out on this crazy way of celebrating Easter the last three years.

How do you like Astoria? The Herways are headed back to NYC to live for a year starting in July.

That is so cool! Love to see culture like that. We were just at Mission Santa Barbara yesterday and sat in on the Easter Mass there. Love it!
