We went to Georgia for Thanksgiving. Doug was lucky to get two days off so we had almost a week of fun to spend with the 'Jeorgia Jensens.' They were excellent hosts and made sure we were constantly entertained. It was such a great, relaxing, break but mostly it was so nice to be able to hang out with my best friend, Doug.
Our trip consisted of (forgive me for this travel log, it's blurb content):
- Doug called Monday night and said he could get Tuesday off as well so w/in FOUR hours, we were packed and on the road (I forgot a few things but did pretty well considering).
- 15 hour drive, 2 1/2 of those hours were getting from our house through New Jersey. We have a slightly sour taste in our mouth for the NJ turnpike. We drove through the night so the kids were great!
- Athens, GA Botanical Gardens.
- Awesome library story time (I covet the kids section in their library) and tour of Athens and tour of UGA. The South has so much class and history. I have the say that the UGA football stadium was AMAZING!!
- Stone Rock hike, lights, and lazer show.
- Thanksgiving dinner: for a couple amateurs, I think we did a superb job. Especially on the NINE pies!
- Atlanta aquarium, olympic park, etc.
- Lots of good runs in their beautiful neighborhood.
- The best part were the good ol' southern folk.
Aubs got creative with on the way back from the Aquarium.
Ryan and two whale sharks (one is up top) and a huge grouper.
Small groupers made for a cool picture.
We stopped at a playground in olympic park, Paige loved this tunnel.
Leah never poses so this is more than just a cute shot.
Robbie 'coo' J.
Rolls-a-plenty. Yummy.
Our crazy group hiked with more kids than adults. Aubrie did it all by herself.
Since Ryan was born in Japan, he thought it appropriate to welcome us into the Asian section of Botanical gardens.
One of my favorite things about Athens was the Bulldogs. They have these in front of a lot of different public buildings, all decorated differently. This is the one outside the library. I think it's sac-religious to touch these according to UGA fans.
We miss you guys!

Fun trip! I am glad Doug got an extra 2 days off! I love the group picture of ya!
my favorite part. "we loved the good ol' southern folk" and then there is Aubrie will a straw jammed up her nose. We need to swap pics!
Love you guys!
vacations are so good for the soul, the fam, your relationship! Seriously I love when I my husband and I get a chance to get away and do something diffrent!
These pictures are making me homesick for Atlanta! Does your brother go to UGA? We never made it to Athens while we lived there--that would be criminal for us to visit there while being a student at GA Tech. They are definitely worse rivals than BYU and Utah.
Looks like a fun trip though! You guys are so brave to drive so far with kids, but it sounds like it went well!
Amber,
You asked for my address.
1018 N. 11th St. Apt F
St. Louis, MO 63101
It looks like you had a great time in Georgia!
I received a text today from my good friend Brent Thurgood. He said he met you guys at a party. That guy is awesome.
Take care.
It was a lot of fun having you guys here for Thanksgiving. Such good memories. I loved all the pics, too.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Hey Amber and Doug--I just saw that ya'll came down to Atlanta--and we totally missed you guys! We live just north of the city, but I'm glad you came and had a great time! I have to confess that we were up in New York a couple months ago too and didn't make the connection. I hope you guys are well!
