I finally found a good excuse to wear a wet suit. (So I thought of you guys almost the whole time I was in it.)
Love, Amber
My second (REAL) triathlon.
We camped in the park the night before. It was actually pretty good camping compared to other places we've been out here. The girls didn't like it so much but at least they slept well. We were so concerned about our pasta salad and tri gear that we forgot matches and wood- thankfully, the people camping next to us had some to spare.
Doug, Leah, and Paige were troopers (really Doug was great). They were there to take pictures and cheer us on. Thanks for the support. Leah even learned how to "cheer."
I was very nervous about the swim portion because I was freezing and I'd never swam in open water, well really I'm just not a swimmer. When it started I felt like the buoys were SO FAR away. People were swimming over me and I was swimming over others. At one point I seriously thought I wasn't going to make it but I stopped and put my head up, got my bearings and then basically took off. I ended up really enjoying the swim and was actually surprised when it was done, I was ready to do it again.
I felt way better about everything in this race compared to the last one. I improved my run time by almost two minutes!
The biggest thing I improved on was my transition. I had a plan and it worked. I actually felt like I knew what I was doing this time.
To my surprise I ended up getting 3rd in my age group. Leah digs the trophy.
There was a lot more setting up and taking down than camping but it was fun
So after my second tri, I think I'm addicted. I could do one every weekend. Too bad it's so expensive, they're mostly on Sunday, and it's difficult for the whole family for me to do. My next step is an Olympic distance tri- hoping for the Jordanelle in Utah next September.
