That Mom

I have had intentions to upload pictures and record some of our Christmas festivities but here I am again blogging about life in general.

So honestly, what thoughts go through your head when you see that Mom at the store who has absolutely no control over her children. Her two year old is inconsolable. On the floor, screaming at the top of her lungs kicking and screaming. So you watch her pick the kid up and place her hand over the screaming child's mouth in order to mute the sound that is now echoing throughout the whole store. The kid arches her back and screams louder and the mom has to pay for the groceries so the kids is placed back on the ground to continue the tantrum. In the meantime, the older child "falls" and starts to cry as well, probably feeling left out. Something. You watch as the mother throws the last of the bags almost on the baby in the car seat and grabs the screaming child in a football grip under her arm, pushes the cart out all the while "urging" the older crying child in a rather stern voice to move faster while tears begin to pour down her own cheek.

Do you think, "She is out of control. She never should have had kids. Whoa, spare us and never bring them out again!"

Well today I was that mother. And every eye in that store said all those things and more to me.

I felt like I just read a journal entry of mine.

i usually look at that mom and think, "glad it's not me today because it was definitely me yesterday". seriously, it happens to all of us! (doesn't make it any easier)

I remember that happening at Target and thinking how long the walk felt from the register to the door. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. It is the worst when you are outnumbered 4 to 1 or more for some. You are just bound to lose on some days. I had a guy stop me the other day and say "um, did you see what your daughter is doing?" I look over and she is covered in what looks like cream cheese. I find out upon closer examination that it is my lotion that she has applied rather thick. He stood about 2 feet away and watched as I cleaned her up. It was weird but I had to laugh. He probably thought all sorts of things about me!!

Honestly, I just laugh. I know it isn't her fault, they are KIDS. No one can "control" exactly what they are going to do. The only ones really judging are the non-parents. They'll find out soon enough they'll be "one of those".

Ahhhhh....I can hear how you felt in your writing. If I were there I would've come over and helped you instead of just stared at you doing it all on your own! I can see your a busy, wonderful momma!

We have all been that mother Amber. Just cut yourself some slack~It happens to the best of us! At least you didn't smack one of 'em! :) It's not easy, but just know you aren't alone and on days like that you have to just tell yourself, "this too shall pass" cuz it does... :) I love you and the honesty of your posts... just remember you aren't alone and people that don't "get it" aren't worth your energy. :)

yes, i usually think, "SO glad its not me today!" and then I say to the mom "I SO know how you are feeling, hang in there." Maybe i should offer some help instead that would be a bit nicer
